Another fabulous article, and recommendation, this time in the Telegraph on 9th February. “ Tai Chi more effective for reducing blood pressure than jogging or cycling. Scientist found one hour of the Chinese martial art four times a week significantly improved cardiovascular fitness in 6 to 12 months”

BBC News: “ Tai Chi may help slow down the symptoms of Parkinson's disease for several years, a Chinese study suggests”
The researchers found that the disease progressed more slowly in the tai chi group on measurements of symptoms, movement and balance.
This group also saw fewer falls, less back pain and dizziness, with memory and concentration problems also lower than in the other group.
At the same time, sleep and quality of life continuously improved.

BBC Radio 4’s Dr Michael Mosley expounds the benefits of Tai Chi on his “Just One Thing”broadcast If you’re looking to add more exercise into your lifestyle why not consider Tai Chi. It’s an ancient Chinese martial art – it’s sometimes called “meditation in motion”. It’s a series of different postures that gently flow into each other in slow movements. One of the big benefits to Tai Chi is that it can significantly enhance the activity of our immune system. And although it looks gentle, it can be a surprisingly good workout! Michael Mosley speaks to Dr. Parco Siu from the University of Hong Kong, who has been studying the health benefits of Tai Chi for over a decade. His research has revealed that Tai Chi can lead to faster brain benefits than other exercises. He also found that Tai Chi was as effective as conventional exercise like moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or muscle strengthening activities for reducing body weight and visceral fat! |

If you have been hankering after embarking on a physical activity that is both beneficial to the body and mind, that does not involve breathless sweating and straining, then Qi Gong and Tai Chi could be for you. Most of all it’s great fun, very social and no experience required. We even have our own monthly newsletter.

Please note we have a new class starting in February on Wednesday mornings in Oakham at the VAR. We also offer private tuition or small group tuition...so get in touch and let’s discuss your requirements.

Here we are in September and we can definitely feel Autumn approaching. If you have always hankered after trying Tai Chi and finding out a little about that strange sounding Qi Gong, why not come along and give it a try. You have a choice of learning by Zoom or in halls.
Our Zoom classes are still growing as people love the “dip in” nature of Zoom and the avoidance of driving to halls etc. We are even now adding a monthly hall get together for Zoomers where they can perfect their forms as well as have a chat and a coffee!
We are so excited to be teaching at the beautiful villages of South Luffenham, Barrowden and Tugby and will be adding more venues as demand pulls us in.
If any of this sounds tempting, give us a call.
We had a really lovely morning at Tugby celebrating World Health Qi Gong day on the 11th September, great fun super people and coffee and cake afterwards..brilliant!

Convinced you have Long-Covid?
Tai Chi and QiGong can help.
Each month more research suggests Tai Chi and QiGong, whether seated or standing can really aid recovery with its soft and gentle movements as well as it’s focus on efficient breathing and mental calmness.
Here is an interesting article from a US research body.
Qigong for the Prevention, Treatment, and Rehabilitation of COVID-19 Infection in Older Adults
Fan Feng, M.D., Ph.D., Sylvie Tuchman, B.A., and Albert Yeung, M.D., Sc.D.
The recent pandemic has the potential to cause significant physical and mental damage in older adults. Similarly to other mind-body exercises in Traditional Chinese medicine, Qigong features regulation of breath rhythm and pattern, body movement and posture, and meditation. Given these traits, Qigong has the potential to play a role in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of respiratory infections, such as COVID-19. Potential mechanisms of action include stress reduction, emotion regulation, strengthening of respiratory muscles, reduction of inflammation, and enhanced immune function.
Three forms of Qigong; Abdominal Breathing, Ba Duan Jin and Liu Zi Jue, all of which are gentle, smooth, and simple for the elderly to practice, are recommended in this context.

Qi Gong more relevant than ever as it helps fight the COVID-19 virus
Little coverage has been given to the contribution of Qi Gong in the battle against the COVID-19 virus in China, Russia and other countries around the World. With the relative recent occurrence of this virus, few clinical studies have, so far, been completed but of those that have, many have shown that Qi Gong has assisted in the treatment of COVID-19 and Long Covid.
A recent study published in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry reports on the possible usefulness of the integrative practice of Qi Gong. Indeed, the publication Elemental Medicine states “One incredibly useful practice that may prove therapeutic for recovering COVID-19 patients is Qi Gong”. The unique soft and meditative qualities in Qi Gong exercises are steadily being acknowledged for calming the mind and helping inflammatory physical conditions whilst energising the body.
Seated Qi Gong is ideal for those suffering from Long Covid and is another practise we offer.
Look out for growing media coverage of Qi Gong as the scale of “Long Covid” suffering is gradually realised.

And a verse from James (our resident Bard)
With winter approaching and Lockdown encroaching,
It is time to look back on the year,
And despite deprivations and other frustrations,
To rejoice in the fact we’re still here!
Much of this is due to Duncan
Who does as much as anyone can,
His classes inspire us to face up to the virus
And for us he’s our own Superman !

June update
Zoom meets the Poet Laureate!
Well folks, it’s about time we updated you on our activities and plans. Again, I would like to take the opportunity to thank so many of your for your amazing contributions to our chosen causes of the Larder Oakham (feeding the sick and vulnerable in the area) and Oakham School (producing protective visors for hospitals and surgeries) during the crisis. We cannot thank you enough.
The take up of the new subscription based four Zoom classes a week has exceeded our expectations. The feedback has highlighted the appetite for bite size sessions several times a week that can be executed in the comfort of your own home. Most importantly, many are experiencing a better level of health and happiness with this system, despite the current national lockdown, albeit easing.
As always, I encourage anyone who has any ideas or suggestions to please get in touch with me. I love it when people come forward with feedback and suggested favourite moves. The whole idea is to keep it dynamic with regular changes of content as you all develop and to add occasional Tai Chi refreshers and meditation sessions. The latter will hopefully commence in a couple of weeks time in the evening.
Of course we will one day get back to hall based classes but there is no indication of when that will be. Nonetheless, I think we can be certain that the Zoom classes will continue irrespective of restrictions easing.
To finish, there is no better way to encapsulate a moment in life than with a poem, especially when you have such talented wordsmiths in your group. So it is that Alan (Laureate) Parker of Billesdon has penned these reflections on our Zoom sessions.
“ Tai Chi with Duncan thrice a week,
Keeps you strong and far from weak,
He shows us moves that stretch our limbs,
And calms our minds so we forget our sins,
The thirtyish minutes seem just enough,
It gives a good workout and not too tough,
All remotely done in our front room,
We are extremely grateful for the invention of Zoom”.
How can one follow that? Please feel free to make your contributions, in prose or otherwise and if you are reading this and would like to know more about our activities, please get in touch.

A Massive Thank You!
Hello friends. Firstly, thank you to all those members who have emailed me with their ideas for structuring sessions going forward.
We have now completed almost 2 months of Zoom sessions and I have been continually amazed at how you have embraced the format and actively participated in the content.
Moreover, your generosity in supporting the two local good causes I nominated has been so greatly appreciated. A massive thank you.
We now know that Oakham School has produced some 20,000 protective face visors for hospitals, GP surgeries and care homes in the region. The Larder In Oakham (a husband and wife team) have now cooked, packed and distributed well over 2,000 nutritious and delicious meals to the sick, infirm and needy around the Oakham area.

How to show your appreciation
Hi friends! Well, we have now joined together on Zoom for 3 weeks since nice “Lockdown” for our Qigong Gong sessions and I have greatly enjoyed hosting them. We will continue to provide these sessions, both morning and evening sessions, until we can resume our normal classes.
Many participants have asked if they can pay something for the classes but I am determined to keep them free to all of my existing students. Nonetheless I have set upon two local causes which, in this current national crisis, are really making a tangible impact in the local Rutland and Leicestershire communities.
I would therefore encourage you, if you are able, to show appreciation for the Qi Gong sessions by donating to either or both of:-
1. The Larder Oakham, delivering meals to those most in need, the elderly, key works or those in self isolation. They have already made and delivered over 1000 meals. Here is a link to their Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/free-food-for-rutland
2. Oakham School, making face shields for the NHS plus Care and Key local workers. They have already deliverd over 2000 face shields to hospitals, GP practices and Care homes throughout Leicestershire, Rutland, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. Here is a link to their Virgin Money Giving page https://t.co/FHAZvtIFPy?amp=1
Both of these organisation are operating on a zero profit basis as are many of their suppliers. Please donate via their individual Givng pages. Thank you!
From Tai Chi Rutland, a massive thank you for your support. Together, as a community of Qi Gong and Tai Chi enthusiasts we will get through this current crisis. Keep safe and keep practising!

Due to the current COVID19 crisis all classes are suspended. We are however committed to doing what we can to keep people’s spirits up and help them maintain good health. We will therefore be organising “pop-up” outdoor sessions, free to members throughout Rutland and Leicestershire. These will be open to existing members and their families. Please keep an eye on the website and your emails for further details.

We at Tai Chi Rutland take the principle of Social Responsibility very seriously. Not only do we ensure that all folks, whatever their physical abilities, have access to Tai Chi and Qi Gong training, we also ensure that we give back to the community.
We had been looking for some time for a charitable institution in Rutland to support and when we were invited to do some Qi Gong exercise sessions for Peppers in Oakham, we didn’t hesitate.
There has been for too long in the UK a total lack of understanding and empathy for those who suffer from the invisible disease of mental illness.
Peppers is a fabulous safe place drop in centre for those who have mental health conditions . At its new central Oakham location, one can partake in a whole range of activities from cooking and art lessons or learn how to operate a computer and create an email. We, as our contribution, will be offering regular Qi Gong classes after lunch to those who want to experience this beautiful relaxing and empowering art.

More and more publications are now extolling the virtues of Tai Chi/ Qi Gong. A recent edition of Natural Health magazine recommended Tai Chi as a remedy for arthritis. “ Fluid gentle movements can work to improve balance, relieve stress and even relieve arthritis pain”.
The publication features an extract from a new book “Rewind Your Body Clock”. As well as describing its anti ageing benefits, the book goes on,” Over the years, hundreds, if not thousands of studies have shown that this low impact form of exercise - the aim of which is to enhance the flow of energy around the body - can help improve quality of life and support the management of symptoms for those suffering from conditions ranging from insomnia, arthritis, osteoporosis and high blood pressure to breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, Parkinson’s and much more.
Tai Chi addresses all the multifaceted constituents of fitness: muscle strength, flexibility, balance and aerobic conditioning”.

Please look at our classes page and see which of our weekly venues suits you and then contact us and we will endeavour to get you started as soon as possible. All of our classes are suitable for beginners and are very friendly, so don’t worry! We will be breaking during the summer but will restart in early September.
We are also holding a Saturday morning Beginners Taster Workshop on Saturday 7th September at Hambleton Village Hall, Workshop is 10am till noon and costs £10. Places are limited so if you are interested in attending please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you!
Come along to our taster morning in September and experience it for yourself.

On other matters, as you can see, all of our other classes are now fully subscribed but if you are interested in attending please let us know as we are always reviewing venues.

Let’s make it a New Year full of Tai Chi!
Well, we are now well prepared at Tai Chi Rutland for 2019 and looking forward to welcoming more newcomers to the world of Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Anyone wishing to dip their toes in the water should note Saturday 2nd February (am) in their diary for the “Taster Session” to be held at the lovely Braunston Village Hall, just outside Oakham. Just drop me an email to register your place.
It has been a super 2018 at Tai Chi Rutland with many people approaching us to know more about this mysterious Eastern art! Interest seems to have been stimulated by recent media coverage such as the TV series Trust Me I’m a Doctor and several articles in daily national newspapers written by practicing GP’s.
The Trust Me I’m a Doctor piece compared Tai Chi ( in reality more Qi Gong) to Zumba. Surprisingly to some, Tai Chi at least matched Zumba in terms of physiological benefits and probably exceeded it in terms of psychological benefits, although these were not assessed in the show.
The Daily Mail GP seems to be a covert to Tai Chi and Qi Gong. He states “ I have found two studies confirming the benefits (of Qi Gong) in relieving persistent neck pain”. The paper also ran a headline “Older people should be offered Tai Chi classes”. In the article, he promoted Tai Chi to improve, amongst other things, balance. He cites the journal “Internal Medicine “whose study “ confirms that Tai Chi is more effective than other interventions such as balance and strengthening classes in preventing falls in the elderly”. The author, Dr Scurr, even admits that he himself is attending Tai Chi classes.
So, if you have ever hankered after having a go at this Oriental art, make it your New Year’s resolution to come along to the Taster Session.

Autumn Update....Doctor knows best!
Most students have seen the recent episode of “Trust Me I’m a Doctor”, where the benefits of Tai Chi were contrasted with Zumba. Incredibly to many, despite Tai Chi being a slow flowing exercise involving little sweat, screaming or obvious strain, the group of guinea pigs put on a 12 week Tai Chi programme displayed all the physiological benefits of those doing Zumba for the same period. Sadly, the study did not look at the psychological benefits of Tai Chi, which could have been equally illuminating.
So much medical evidence of the benefits of this Eastern art is currently emerging that there will inevitably be more media coverage of Tai Chi and also to Qi Gong.
We have just completed another day long retreat at Braunston and such has been the positive feedback that another one is planned for probably March 2019 for those who did not get the opportunity to attend.
As you can see from the weekly programme page, all venues apart from Cottesmore have a wait list. It is important to give all attendees a relaxing and uncrowned feel when they attend so these number restrictions have been introduced. For those waiting, please be assured you will be advised when spaces become available.
For those who would like to experience Tai Chi for the first time, please register your interest for a Saturday morning “taster” session which will, subject to demand, be held at a venue close to Oakham in early 2019.
For my regular attendees, thank you so much for your patronage and I hope to offer you many new Tai Chi experiences and fun in the year to come.

New Term Begins
Well as you can see from the classes page, most of our venues are fully subscribed but there are still places available at Cottesmore. The first Taster Morning in early September was a great success and we hope to organise another one soon. If you are interested please let us know,
We were amazed to see The Times publish a two page article on Qi Gong in mid August. The article titled “ The Ancient Exercise that is suddenly Cool” - “A 5000 year old practice that is said to be the secret to longevity.” It states that, apart from some of the benefits, Hollywood A-Listers such as Gwynneth Paltrow and Julia Roberts are reported to be regular Qi Gong enthusiasts. You are therefore in very good company! www.thetimes.co.uk/article/the-ancient-chinese-exercisethat-is-suddenly-cool-9bh8z5lrz

Summer Update
The Good News Just Keeps On Coming!
As the sun keeps radiating it’s strong ray’s down on us this Summer, so the good news regarding the health benefits of Tai Chi keep on coming like an avalanche!
A recent Woman’s Own article states “ An Australian study found that older women who practice Tai Chi age considerably more slowly”. Regular attendees to our classes often get comments on their increased youthfulness from family and friends.
Another article in a major circulation magazine states that “Tai Chi can help with the symptoms of osteoarthritis (wear and tear joint damage) as well as improving mobility in the ankles, hips and knees of those with rheumatoid arthritis. Yet another article states that “Tai Chi May be better at relieving fibromyalgia pain than more aerobic exercises”.
So if you are reading this and looking to improve both your mental and physical health in a relaxing and enjoyable environment, why not come along and give it a try at our Beginners Taster Morning on Saturday 1st September at Hambleton Village Hall from 10am until noon. For more detail please see our “workshops” page or to register your interest please email us at [email protected]

Thanks to David and Ann, keen supporters of Tai Chi Rutland, who took a picture of one of our delightful and very useful bags sunning itself on the Dorset coast!
If you are new to the world of Tai Chi why not have a look at our Workshops page where we have just added information of an upcoming taster day and if you are one of our regulars a retreat day to enjoy!

Spring at last and a Tai Chi media surge!
Having thought winter would never end,at last the shoots of spring are making themselves known. Suddenly, folks are appearing out of their winter hibernation and signing on to join the happy bands of Tai Chi Rutland followers.
As you can see, some classes are full. Sadly, we can’t expand the capacity of venues and we will not compromise on the quality of lessons with overcrowding. Where possible we will endeavour to put on extra classes.
The past couple of weeks have seen a number of solid research studies being released on Tai Chi. It is no surprise to me that Tai Chi has been found to bring about improvements in a range of conditions from PTSD to Fibromyalgia. Historically, research into the benefits of Tai Chi and Qi Gong largely came from the Far East institutions with questionable ethics and credibility. Gradually with esteemed institutions such as the Harvard Medical School taking a scientific approach to the art, those on this side of the Atlantic are slowly waking up and discovering that the principles of Tai Chi, set around 3000BC, do have credibility.
As the BBC and UK media steadily increase their coverage, so our mail and phone call traffic has increased with people wanting to know more. This is a very exciting time for us and we look forward to helping more people throughout Rutland and neighbouring areas start their journey of discovery.
Please take a look at the fascinating article from the BBC this month relating to the benefits of Tai Chi. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-43485851?SThisFB
Remember Tai Chi is not only a standing art but is also a well established seated art form and just as effective.

Another Successful Launde Retreat Day at Launde
Yet again, Launde proved to be the perfect location for 15 enthusiasts from all over Leicestershire, Rutland and even Surrey, to spend a beautiful day together learning more about Tai Chi and Qi Gong. It was also an opportunity to meet new friends, as many had never met before.
As well a a superb lunch and delightful afternoon tea, the group were able to practice whole routines such as the "5 Animal Set" and "8 Peices of Brocade" without the usual time constraints set by the usual one hour per week class timings. One brave couple had never experienced any of these arts before and enjoyed the experience so much that they are going to join a class local to them.
We also had time to learn the origins of Qi Gong and Tai Chi and how beliefs such as "The 5 Elements" are still very engrained in the way the Chinese live their lives nowadays, even in deciding what colour they paint their front door!
The day concluded with a lively attempt at fan dance and then we went into the beautiful grounds to take in the amazing energies and practice some lovely Qi Gong together. The feedback has been fabulously positive and many have expressed interest in participating in the next Launde Retreat in March 2018.
Here are a few photos of the day.....

Welcome to the Autumn Term
Well, it's hard to believe that after some very indifferent weather, Summer is pretty much behind us and we now have the prospect of shorter days and chilly temperatures !
For those existing members, we look forward to seeing you back at the normal class times with start dates listed on the "Classes" section of the website.
For those of you browsing the website and wondering if Tai Chi could be a possible activity to maintain and even improve your health and well being, please come along to one of our classes and give it a try. In Tai Chi, there is no competitive ethos, no fashion Lycra and you are totally free to develop at your own pace.
For those who believe they are too old for this activity, I would like to introduce you to Ken and his wife Rene, a delightful couple from Oakham (picture below) who have been coming along to seated Tai Chi for over a year. I am sure Ken won't mind me telling you that he has just celebrated his 96th birthday!!
Our classes are always enjoyable and there is a good chance you will leave feeling beautifully relaxed and refreshed with a lot clearer mind. Just look at the articles from many esteemed journals under the "Reading" section of the website, listing the ever increasing clinically proven benefits of Tai Chi. Remember, you are never too old.

Summer is here and the Qi is rising!
If you are looking through the website wondering if you should give Tai Chi 'a go', the medical evidence as to its efficacy, both physically and mentally, just keeps building!
A recent study by researchers at Canberra University in Australia found that a 45 minute session at least once a week helped improve thinking, attention and memory.
The team assessed 39 studies testing the impact of exercise on over 50's and published their findings in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
So summer is here and it won't be long until nights start to draw in again, so get out there and do some Tai Chi in the open air!
If you haven't been on the Tai Chi Retreat Day at Launde yet, we have now published dates for the Launde courses for 2018. To view these please go to our Work shop page. These will be follow on courses for those who came along this year and will focus on deeper understanding of the mechanics of Tai Chi.
(Please note that due to high demand and popularity we have now sold out all 2017 dates)

A Superb day of pure relaxation at beautiful Launde Abbey.
It has been our dream to have a day of QI Gong, Tai Chi and learning the origin of these arts at the beautiful retreat centre of Launde Abbey. Well, that dream has been realised . A group of 11 advanced practitioners, largely from Billesdon, sampled the '5 Animal set' , the 8 Pieces of Brocade,as well as a the traditional Tai Chi and QI Gong sets. We all had a great time in these lovely tranquil surroundings . Probably worth mentioning the delicious lunch and afternoon tea lemon drizzle cake. We will be having a similar retreat day in September and have booked for a repeat session in 2018!

The Ketton Seated Tai Chi group go from strength to strength. A great way to conclude the week on a Friday afternoon. A good Tai Chi session followed by tea and cake! Unbeatable.

Stop Press!
Just when I began to despair with the UK press with its constant bias towards conventional Western health beliefs and regimes, The Times produces a revelation of an article expounding the virtues of Tai Chi!
The article (dated 2nd February 2017) urges NHS chiefs to encourage the working population to engage in such activities as Tai Chi in their 40's or 50's, or before.
To quote the article " There's a reason why 200 million Chinese practice Tai Chi daily en masse in public spaces at dawn; these slow flowing movements build strong muscles and bones and create the neural pathways in the brain that sustain balance. A class of an hour a week makes a difference; ten minutes every other day keeps the spine and joints supple".
It goes on to highlight a recent Canadian study where a group of over 70's were given exercises over a six month period. Half were sent to Tai Chi lessons and the rest were given stretching classes. During this time half of the stretching class sustained falls whereas only a quarter of the Tai Chi group experienced a fall. Moreover, when falling, the Tai Chi group injured themselves at half the rate of those who stretched.
The article concludes that companies should get tax breaks for providing staff with Tai Chi classes. Well, if you ever wanted evidence on the all round health benefits of Tai Chi, then look no further. If you were thinking of joining, or even rejoining a class, then this may give you the necessary kick.

It was a great experience to meet and study with one of my heroes of Tai Chi, Dr Lam. I attended his "Tai Chi for Rehabilitation" course in Manchester. Here he is awarding me my certificate.

Welcome back to weekly classes after our Summer break. With new evening classes announced at the Cottesmore Community Centre (Village Hall) to start in October there is little excuse left if you have made a resolution to try Tai Chi . We now cover a large catchment area from 5 venues and cater for those who prefer mornings and those who want to come along after work. All the groups are incredibly friendly and welcoming so you will soon feel part of the team. Beware as Tai Chi can be highly addictive!
Finally, it has been a longstanding ambition to invite my fellow Tai Chi enthusiasts to attend a workshop in a beautiful location where we can practice, learn and discuss together. Well, we are thrilled to announce that we will be having our first 'retreat' at the beautiful Launde Abbey in the beautiful Leicestershire countryside.

At last Summer!
Well if ever there was a need for the relaxing/calming attributes of Tai Chi it's now with Brexit and Euro football upsets!
At Tai Chi Rutland, we are keeping busy. We recently started classes at the beautiful Stapleford Park Country Club and are now starting some seated Tai Chi classes too.
We are now planning ahead for Autumn/Winter 2016.
If you can't find a venue that suits you, please get in touch as we want everyone to have the chance of experiencing the world of Tai Chi.

The group, who were my first class when Tai Chi Rutland started in the Autumn of last year, are celebrating getting well over half way through the beautiful Yang style 24 routine . They have now executed the move "Strike ears with Fists" and are well on their way to completing the full routine. The group meet at the beautiful Coplow Centre at Billesdon every Tuesday at 10 am. Within the classes we practise both QI Gong and Tai Chi and beginners are always welcome. Well done ladies!

Results of Tai Chi Rutland questionnaire - Proof of the benefits of Tai Chi and QI Gong
If anyone had any doubts about the benefits of Tai Chi for your physical and mental wellbeing, you are well advised to read on. Tai Chi Rutland distributed its own questionnaire to all its students who had practiced Tai Chi and QI Gong for an average of 6 months. The submissions received were anonymous so no favourable responses were sought!
The level of positive outcomes can be seen in the bar chart below. As we go through life, we learn that anything giving a 50% chance of success is worth 'giving it a go', we have outcomes on some major health factors of well over that level.
One of the biggest challenges is improving our balance and over 70% of respondents had noticed an improvement, with a similar number noting better flexibility (63%) and also posture (63%). Achieving these objectives can give a person so much confidence to widen their field of life activities.
Turning to our psychological state, you can see from the results a significant number felt more energised (48%) and more importantly, more optimistic (63%).
The focused and coordinated body movements of Tai Chi had unsurprisingly improved people's powers of general concentration (56%)
If you are one of those people who have looked at the Tai Chi Rutland website in the past and somehow not summoned up the will power to take the plunge, then these survey results may just give you that vital nudge. Remember that Tai Chi is a personal journey with no competitive element. You embark on your own journey of self discovery and you can start at any time. So, why not have a look at the list of venues and come along ? You will receive a warm welcome and may well get quickly hooked.
For those existing students of Tai Chi Rutland, these results fully justify all the time and effort you have invested in the art and I sincerely congratulate you and hope you continue to experience even greater benefits in the years to come.

Also.... A big thanks to the ladies of Charme in south west France and especially Lesley Chown for making me feel so at home at their work out session. They have even named a Qi Gong move after me! Can't wait to come back.
Other Stuff
An interesting article in The Guardian (17 September) covered a study by the British Journal of Sports Medicine, stating that Tai Chi can relieve some of the most crippling symptoms and disabling conditions such as osteo arthritis, heart disease and chronic breathing problems in older people. The report concluded that GP's should be prescribing Tai Chi sessions!
For those interested in reading a thorough (and fascinating) appraisal of the numerous benefits of Tai Chi, based on extensive scientific analysis, I really recommend the 'Harvard Medical School Guide to Tai Chi' by Peter Wayne and Mark Fuerst. Peter is Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is one of the most enthusiastic advocates of bringing Tai Chi into every hospital and indeed school.
